Almost all owners of puppies have to face the problem of diarrhea in their pets. At the same time, it is very important to know the frequency of manifestation, its amount, color and consistency of fecal matter. Diarrhea can be a sign of a wide variety of diseases, from the simplest to very dangerous. But it is worth noting that if left untreated, diarrhea of any etiology is life-threatening and even fatal for your pet.
Causes and symptoms of diarrhea
The most common causes of loose stools are:
– spoiled products;
– introduction of a new product in the diet (sugar, raw eggs, onions, raisins, currants, nuts, legumes, carrots, etc.);
– switching to a new feed;
– overeating;
– enzyme deficiency;
– bacterial infections;
– the simplest ones;
– viral infections;
– helminths;
– it can also be as a result of stress.
The main symptoms of diarrhea are:
– liquid feces;
– elevated temperature;
– frequent bowel movements;
– increased thirst;
– abdominal pain (the animal walks hunched over);
– flatulence.
You need to carefully monitor the feces, its color, amount, content of mucus and blood. You need to treat this painful condition very carefully. At the first sign of diarrhea, you should immediately consult a veterinarian.
As if your dog were an adult, we could recommend for him a starvation diet for a day, taking sorbents (atoxil, enterosgel, smekta)), decoctions of medicinal herbs that have an astringent and anti-inflammatory effect (chamomile, St. John’s wort, oak bark, etc.), if all is well, the next day rice, rice broth, later with boiled beef, possibly with enzymes if necessary, or a branded therapeutic diet, but this should already be consulted with the veterinarian. But when it comes to a small puppy, contact a specialist as soon as possible, they need more significant support in the treatment of diarrhea, and timely diagnosis of deadly diseases.
